Mt. Gilead is a non-denominational church that remains committed to its original vision of reaching people for Jesus Christ. The foundation that Mt. Gilead began building on over 160 years ago is the same foundation that it stands on today.
Mt. Gilead’s buildings and grounds may be different, but there is one thing has not changed – our commitment to following Jesus Christ and holding His Word as our standard for all we do.
The original Covenant and Government of Mt. Gilead Church was “We, the Christian Church, agree to take the Word of God for the name of our council and the Scriptures, our rule of faith and practice, and nothing else.”
Mt. Gilead Church was organized on August 12, 1851 with 6 members present at the first service. That first service was held in a home located approximately 1 mile east of our present location. For the first 39 years, meetings were held in various homes and schoolhouses in the area.
A sanctuary was built in 1890 and has undergone several additions and remodeling projects since that time. Our educational building was built in 1960 and our fellowship hall was constructed in 2001.
We dedicated our present sanctuary in November of 2007. In December of 2008 our basement was completed with 10 classrooms for Sunday School and other groups to use.
At Mt. Gilead, you are family. We hope that you will become part of our rich history and join us in what God is doing now.
